FSU Campus Tragedy: Deputy’s Son Opens Fire, Leaving 2 Dead and 6 Injured

At least six people were hurt during a possible active shooter situation at Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee. The university police said they were handling an "active scene" and trying to bring the situation under control. Later, FSU posted online that the threat had been "neutralized," but some parts of the campus were still being treated as a crime scene.

A senior law enforcement official in Florida said one person had been arrested, but they weren’t sure yet if that person was the shooter. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies, including the ATF, quickly arrived to help because they have offices close to the university.
Representative Neal Dunn, who represents the area, said he and his team were watching the reports closely. He asked everyone to follow safety instructions and thanked the first responders.
A student named Ben Veytsman said he had just finished a therapy session on campus when he heard gunshots. He saw two people running, and one of them shouted, “There’s a school shooting, everyone get inside!” That’s when Ben and others ran and hid. He said it didn’t feel real — like he was living through a school shooting drill. Eventually, he was allowed to go home safely.
FSU canceled all classes until Friday and also canceled sports events in the city through the weekend. Many students were scared and confused, and some were seen comforting each other on campus.
Many important people shared messages of support. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody, and even former President Donald Trump all said they were praying for everyone’s safety. The FBI said they were closely watching the situation and were in contact with agents at the scene.
The hospital in Tallahassee said they had received people injured in the incident but did not share exact numbers or details due to privacy.
One student, Cole Summers, said he was getting food at Panera Bread when he heard girls talking about a gun. Then, he heard gunshots and ran away. He said the shots seemed to be coming from the entrance of the student union building.
FSU is a large university with more than 44,000 students and over 16,000 employees. The campus covers a big area and has hundreds of buildings. Everyone is hoping for the safety of the students, staff, and emergency teams working on the scene.
